FDM/FFF – Fused Deposition Modeling or Fused Filament Fabrication
FDM is the most accessible 3D printing technology due to its low cost and ease of use. FDM feeds a strand or filament of plastic through a heated extruder or print head. The melted plastic exits the print head and is deposited layer by layer on a moving bed to create the model.
There are two main methods for moving the print head on FDM machines, Cartesian, and delta. Cartesian systems tend to be more accurate and are easier to set up and maintain. Delta systems can print faster and with generally larger build volumes.
